God has never been limited to choosing who will be His. When He created each of us we became His. Isn’t that a wonderful realization? We have a Father who not only brought us into being, but one who continues to be by our side, who continues to love us no matter how often we turn from Him to do our own thing. Unlike our earthly fathers He never turns away when we choose the wrong path to follow. He is always in control and yet He allows us to make our mistakes in order that we might learn for ourselves the things He has always known – that we will only survive and flourish as we become more like the One who brought us into His world. As you ponder that thought you will realize that there is far more to life than you ever could imagine. You can make it to the stars when you finally accept the fact that your life is not your own – it belongs to Him.
He did His best when He allowed us to call Him Father because the family was organized to rely on one entity as its Head, the leader who would call the shots so to speak; the One who would determine the direction the family would take and don’t fool yourself into thinking you are in charge of your life because He has allowed you to take temporary responsibilities for the reins. The bottom line has always and ever will be that those who are obedient children will always be able to count on His final gifting – eternal life with Him in His heavenly home. You only have to read through history books to see what can go wrong with a life that goes astray. Are you willing to take that risk?
We were given our example in the very beginning when Adam and Eve made the first mistake and chose to eat fruit from the forbidden tree. A fulfilled life was theirs for the taking, but they got greedy. We seem to have inherited that trait even though we have been thoroughly warned. Is it too late to change our ways; have we not been given enough examples of what sin can do to a life that was intended to be glorious?
God has made concessions for His wayward children because of His great love, but He has told us in many ways as He corrects us that His will will be done. As His earthly children should know there will come a time when enough is enough. As our world continues down hill we should be able to see that we are fast approaching that time. What have we learned; which way shall we turn? Do you remember some of the first words He spoke to His troubled children – God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). What more could He have done? You may recall saying to your children that “enough is enough” and you weren’t kidding. Neither is He!
There are some things we are all afraid of and often they are stupid things but God doesn’t waste time with unnecessary things. He told us plainly from the beginning – And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life (Matthew 19:29).
What is eternal life? Jesus, Himself, tells us in the book of John as He interceded for the Father’s children – And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (17:3).
I am thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice and it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to Thee.
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord to the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to Thy precious, bleeding side.
