Chicken or Dry Cat Food?

Where is your sense of humor?  Danny, my cat, likes being the center of attention and it appears that there are some others who think his wisdom is worth considering.  I had to think long and hard about this and decided Danny is not too far out.  We all habitually desire what we want and think we should have rather than what wisdom dictates and God intended.  BUT, in reality, we cannot change who we are.  The question we must consider to cultivate peace in our souls is simply “who was I created to be”?

This is something that has been relevant for all of us since the time of Adam and Eve when they unwisely decided that they didn’t really need anyone to tell them what they could and could not do.  And so they set the pattern for our days and we have been complaining ever since.  We have never liked having rules set by someone else and then being told we have no choice but to obey.  We find, however, that the rules were never ours to make.  God told Adam Cursed is the ground…for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return (Genesis 3:17-19).  Wow, that doesn’t sound very nice, does it, and yet we have been testing the issue ever since.

Do you have any idea of just exactly what you were designed for?  As we grow and learn many of us find that actually our path will take us down a much different road than we ever imagined.  Think about Mary, the mother of Jesus.  I don’t think I have to ask you if you think she had, in her wildest imagination, ever considered such a thing.  Have you ever taken time out of your day to simply sit and talk to your Father about what plans He has made for your life? In reality most of us think ourselves competent to make our own decisions without anyone’s unasked for opinion.  Might I be nervy enough to ask just how far that has gotten you?

I think I just might be experienced enough at this point to say I never dreamed that there could ever be anything that God might consider giving me to do for Him.  Even Danny (I can read his mind you know) realizes that we were always meant to be, not only for each other’s pleasure, but for something much more important even though we were not sure just what it would be.  It is quite laughable that a human being could actually learn something of value from a cat!

Our world has advanced so much these days that there are many things we take for granted and never have to make earth shattering decisions about.  When you take the time to read your Bible do you ever think about the many unknowns God’s people have had to go through to simply begin to see that there is a greater power than themselves; that when we absolutely don’t know what to do that there is someone who loves us so much that He would give His very life to show us that there is a fact of life that will never change.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

Do you know what your purpose in life was meant to be?  Have you ever sat down and simply asked our Father what you could do for Him; who He made you to be?  It’s a sobering thought, but one that needs to be addressed.  I tried to explain to Danny that I didn’t mind sharing my chicken with him in small portions, but that he must remember who he is and what is needed in his life for him to fulfill the Father’s intention in creating him; what he was always meant to be.

I see the work of Your hands, galaxies spinning a heavenly dance,
Oh God, all that You are is so overwhelming!
And I hear the sound of Your voice,
All at once it’s a gentle and thundering noise;
Oh God, all that You are is so overwhelming!
