Just As I Am

Thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come.  Time passes so very fast; it seems as if it was only yesterday when I was getting ready to leave home for the hopes of a college degree.  The times then were considerably more peaceful and everyone was making plans for a future.  None of us knew exactly what we would end up doing, but we did have an idea and so we set out on a path.  It seems like such a long time ago and I don’t imagine you are any different than myself as I don’t often look back to yesterday; my eyes are fixed on tomorrow and what I will be doing and why.  There is so much to accomplish just to exist, but then there are also the times we look forward to flying free, doing what we have always dreamed of and what our current lives are spent paying for.

There is a feeling of excitement even though sometimes it gets covered up with practicality.  Is our life different today than we ever thought it would be?  Probably most of us would have to say “yes”.  It is always easier to see things after the fact.  Rarely are we given a picture of our tomorrows even though we sometimes like to dream.  Paul tells us in the book of Ephesians - For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (2:10).  I wonder how often we remind ourselves of this or even if it comes into our thoughts at all.

As we live today many of us will be surprised at the changes we have made; at what life has caused us to reconsider as we have moved through it.  Honestly, if life could be actually known from the beginning to the endit would probably not be very interesting and interesting is what we all like for life to be.  However, most of us have come to realize that our Creator always had a plan when He decided to create us.  He wanted us to be happy and whole, but He also knew that those things come only when one has faced reality and chosen to live over and beyond its tragedies.  Also whether we want to accept it or not there has always been a plan especially designed for us to follow.  I wonder how many of us have found our right track.  John gave God glory in the book of Revelation when he stated that You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; forYou created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created (4:11).

Do you ever think about why God created you?  Do you live each day aware of the fact that when you were created there was also a plan created for your life; things you were supposed to be and things you were supposed to do?  If I could get up the courage to be truthful I would have to say that I rarely, if ever, think about what God intended for my life and whether I have made any progress in reaching the goal He set for me.  Maybe I can make tomorrow different!

There came a time when God looked down upon the likes of me,
He saw the love within my heart and how grateful I was to be;

He heard the song flow from my heart and saw the sparkle in my eye,
As He said to himself it was worth it all for the Son I love to die.

Can we understand, can we truly know the cost for us He paid;
It’s beyond the realm of the human heart to imagine as He was laid
In the coldness of an empty tomb, in the darkness of a lonely cave,
What could blossom forth in awesome glory and all because He gave.
