You are probably already saying to yourself “What a stupid question!”, but is it? While it is true that you have earthly parents the power to create was never ours. While our heavenly Father has given us the grace to think our plans are ours they never have really been. He has never given us the control that only belongs to Him. Theoretically that should eliminate the characteristic of pride, but it would seem He has also allowed this in order that it might be plain just who is in charge of life and its outcome. It would seem however that with the passage of time we have become increasingly arrogant. Considering the condition of our world today just maybe we should do an about face and on our knees ask for forgiveness and the opportunity to try life His way.
All of us are familiar with the words “In the beginning”, but it has become increasingly common to simply forget those words and believe the decisions are ours alone. Have you already figured that out for yourself? If not you might want to consider doing that quickly because we have made a real mess of our world almost reaching the point of entire elimination. What do you think would be the best choice at this point? Fortunately that decision has been taken out of our hands for God’s Word has made His solution obvious for all to read for themselves. He will allow us to see for ourselves the evil of this world, but for those of us who follow Him the solution is already set in stone. We will one day see for ourselves what His original plan for us was.
In today’s world we have seen for ourselves the power of reconciliation and yet we have become increasingly stubborn. We don’t want to take a chance, we don’t want to give up our options to place the issues in another’s hands. It seems to be inborn in our children as we often hear the expression “I can do it myself”. And yet I realize that You never desired to have a puppet following. You wanted love from your children and we desire the same from You even though we don’t always understand the formation of that love which comes with the development of trust through the experience of life. Forgive us, Lord, and help us as we try to correct some of our mistakes even though we know we cannot return to the beginning of creation and have a new do-over.
The fact is though that You have never changed and Your Word tells us all of you are children of the Most High (Psalm 82:6); But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13). Have we forgotten that? Do we think that life is our own to do with what we wish? People, that is pride. God has always wanted His children to increase in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52).
Today’s children receive less in school than many of us did. It has become a routine that is just what one has to go through without the results of yesterday. Knowledge has increased, but it would seem that wisdom hasn’t followed suit. They say that one can never back up, but I don’t think it is impossible to start over with a new goal in mind. Maybe it is past time when we should consider the value of doing so.
O Love that wilt not let me go.
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
