Open My Eyes!

Truth – what is truth?  Often things we can’t or don’t choose to see are still real and do exist.  Should we get more serious and observant as we walk through our days?  Are we accomplishing what the Lord put us here to do?  Often today we see people around us who seem to be wearing blinders.  We think we shouldn’t have to worry about tomorrow before it gets here.  How wrongcan we get?  Should we think more about tomorrow as it draws nearer?  Just maybe there is a reason why we should.  I know if we are going to take a vacation trip we always prepare for what we are going to take and what we don’t want to miss seeing while we are gone.  Is our most important trip any different?

The truth – it is the most important trip we will ever take and we should already be considering what we want to take with us and what we will want to say to our Lord when we get there.  Will He be proud of us and our lives or will He be disappointed because we skipped something that really was very important?  And how can we know what was important to Him?  Well, one answer has been already made available to us – it is found in detail in our Bible where the Lord saw to it that all that was needed to be said would be said.  Have we gone over it as we do with our other trip lists?

You don’t need to answer that because it probably is not any different than my own answer.  I hate to admit it, knowing what I know, but it has a way of getting put off until tomorrow.  How sad!!

I think I better start making some major changes right now.  Lord, help me to do just that because I really am looking forward to seeing you one day and understanding all the things that I don’t currently understand, but can you wait just a little longer.  I still have quite a list in front of me that I have yet to accomplish.

Gee! I think I actually do understand.  A list can always be put off until tomorrow, but this list is not a regular one.  It needs to be started on ahead of time if we are to accomplish it, sorta like the lists we make ahead of time for Christmas when something has to actually be made or accumulated.  Is there still time, will You help us to get this list right and in time?

Yes, I understand that there is a right and wrong time for everything.  Your Word tells us that sufficient for the day is its own trouble (Matthew 6:34).  What then do we consider and how shall we go about bringing it to mind?  Oh!!  You have already given us the answer.

You gave it to those of the Old Testament who only heard Your Word through the prophets. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105).  The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever (Isaiah 40:8).  So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11).

Many years have passed since those days, but the Word of God has never changed and the disciples who followed, listened and learned from His Son, Jesus, whose words were recorded for us today -

Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death (John 8:51).  Is that plain enough for us today?

Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key, that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
